New RTG on Heart and Brain Diseases at UMG

A new research training group “Heart and brain diseases: integrative research across organs” (RTG 2824), based at the University Medical Center Göttingen, is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) with 6 Million Euros for five years, starting April 2023.

“Heart and brain diseases: integrative research across organs” (RTG 2824) aims to expand the cross-organ approach through high-end integrative research and clinical studies in the field of heart and brain diseases combined with top-notch training of medical doctorate and PhD students.

Specifically and with a translational perspective, the focus will be on the heart and brain diseases “broken heart syndrome”, the disturbance of mental performance in heart failure, the effects of proteotoxic stress in Alzheimer’s disease, and the disturbed central autonomic nervous system after a stroke.

The spokespersons of the new Research Training Group are MBExC member Prof. Dr. André Fischer, Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at UMG, spokesperson of the DZNE Göttingen site, and Prof. Dr. Dörthe M. Katschinski, Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Physiology at UMG.
