Unique in the world: laboratory-grown heart tissue has been implanted in patients with heart failure as part of a study conducted by the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH). The so-called heart patch is intended to strengthen the heart permanently and has the potential for a new therapeutic approach. For the first time, a patient is reporting on his experiences with the heart patch two years after implantation. The study is an example of translational research: from the laboratory to clinical application – for the benefit of patients.
