Hertha Sponer College Workshop (Internal Event)
“How to feel as competent & successful as you really are: The imposter syndrome revisted”
11 November 2021, 9 a.m – 5 p.m.
European Neuroscience Institute Göttingen
Trainer: Kerstin Mauth, Göttingen
Description:
“One day they will find out that I am not as smart as they think I am!”
“Oh, that was nothing. If I can do it, anyone can!”
“That I got this far is simply a matter of luck!”
“Everyone else has it so much more together than I have!”
Does any of these thoughts sound vaguely familiar to you? Or do these or similar thoughts even cross your mind on a regular basis? If yes,
welcome to the club of highly achieving and talented people who tend to hold back from fully playing out their potential because of an inner voice that keeps telling them they are not enough – not smart enough, not dominant enough, not experienced enough. Especially in highly competitive and critical fields such as academia, men and women tend to hear this voice of the so-called inner critic loudly and regularly. Often, they shy away from
addressing this experience openly out of fear of ridicule or shame. This workshop opens up the space for the participants to share their personal experience with the inner critic and thus helps to demystify it. Participants will get to know the underlying causes that feed the inner critic’s stories and believes. They will also learn to shift their attention to something that’ s more empowering, true and interesting than the inner critic’s everrepetitive stories. As a result, participants will feel empowered to speak up with confidence and move forward towards what is most important to them.
