Salon Debate on September 17, 2024 at Forum Wissen
„Animal experiments in science“ is the topic of an event on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 6.30 p.m. in the Forum Wissen at the University of Göttingen. It is part of the “Salon Debates” series, which addresses current issues from science and society and discusses them in a talk show format with guests from various disciplines.
Scientific animal experiments are repeatedly called into question by society and politicians, in particular whether they are ethically justifiable and whether they are necessary at all. Calls are being made for a complete ban. But what would this mean for science and society? What are the arguments for and against animal experiments in science? How are they currently regulated? What alternative methods are available? And how can these be used effectively in research? How does science address the complex ethical issues?
Journalist and presenter Vladimir Balzer from Deutschlandfunk discusses these and other topics in the Forum Wissen with the following guests:
Hearing researcher Prof. Dr. Tobias Moser, University Medical Center Göttingen and Spokesperson of the Göttingen Cluster of Excellence „Multiscale Bioimaging (MBExC)“
Medical ethicist Prof. Dr. Silke Schicktanz, University Medical Center Göttingen
Prof. Dr. Stefan Treue, Director of the German Primate Center
Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, long-standing member of the EU Parliament (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen)
The event will be recorded. Admission is free, but registration is required via this link.
