Oskar Lapp Research Award 2025 for cardiovascular research goes to Göttingen

Scientists from the ‘Molecular Pharmacology’ working group at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) have been awarded this year’s Oskar Lapp Research Award. Dr. Funsho Fakuade, postdoctoral researcher, and medical students Dominik Hubricht and Vanessa Möller were presented with the award at the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of the German Society of Cardiology – Cardiovascular Research (DGK) in Mannheim on 24 April 2025. With this award, the DGK specifically supports young scientists in order to provide important impetus and initiate new therapeutic approaches in cardiovascular research. The prize, which is endowed with 12,000 euros, is awarded once a year.

‘This award is a great recognition of our work. Our goal is to further develop our findings and contribute to improving the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation in the long term,’ says Dr. Funsho Fakuade, first author of the study and member of the Hertha Sponer College of the Cluster of Excellence “Multiscale Bioimaging: From Molecular Machines to Networks of Excitable Cells” (MBExC). The results have been published in the journal ‘Circulation’.
