“NaV channel measurements using high-throughput automated patch-clamp” – Part I
HSC collegian Izzatullo Sobitov, RG Niels Voigt, RG Molecular Pharmacology, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, UMG
Location: University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG)
Description:
Voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav) are central to the excitability of cardiomyocytes and neurons, and their study provides valuable insights into both physiology and disease. In this workshop, we will introduce the use of the SyncroPatch 384, an automated patch-clamp system that enables high-throughput recordings of ionic currents. Unlike traditional manual patch clamp, this platform allows parallel measurements from up to 384 cells, with automated solution exchange and pre-programmed experimental protocols.
As a practical example, we will record Nav currents in cardiomyocytes to demonstrate the workflow. The same type of experiment can then be extended to cells from participants’ own projects, especially where Nav channel measurements are already planned. In addition to the experimental aspect, we will also discuss how the generated data can be analyzed.
This workshop is intended not only as a technical introduction but also as a starting point for future collaboration among HSC members. We aim to build a common ground for working together, both on the experimental side and in the data analysis domain, so that the platform can be used to support diverse research directions.
