Student/ academic assistant (f/m/d) to study human mitochondrial translation initiation
The Cluster of Excellence „MULTISCALE BIOIMAGING: From Molecular Machines to Networks of Excitable Cells (MBExC)” is searching for a position as
Student/ academic assistant (studentische/ wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft) (f/m/d) to study human mitochondrial translation initiation
for 6 months.
Salary according to the UMG regulations for student and academic assistants.
Start date: September 2021.
The goal of the MBExC is to decipher disease-relevant nanoscale functional units in neurons, sensory cells and cardiomyocytes and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for disorders affecting the heart, the brain, or both. By a multiscale approach MBExC will uncover fundamental biological principles at increasing levels of complexity from molecular, nanoscale to network and organ levels. The MBExC research program covers gene expression and regulation, protein assembly and targeting, Ca2+ signaling and Ca2+ triggered membrane fusion as well as the development of innovative research techniques.
MBExC unites numerous partners from the University, University Medical Center, and extra-university institutions in Göttingen. The project will be performed in the Department of Physical Biochemistry led by Prof. Marina Rodnina at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Am Fassberg 11, Göttingen).
You will help to build the initiation complex of human mitochondrial translation apparatus, and to understand how it functions on different mRNAs.
• Purification of human mitochondrial translation system components
• Measuring the efficiency of mitochondrial translation initiation in vitro
• Culturing HEK293 cells
Qualifications and experience:
• Education in biological sciences
• Lab work experience in either molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field
• Cell culture experience is of advantage
• Highly professional working environment
• Structured training of diverse methods
• Flexible working time
Please send your CV and a short motivation letter as a single file either in English or in German to Dr. Kärt Denks (firstname.lastname@example.org) until June 30th 2021.
