Marina Eckermann receives Academic Award of the Universitätsbund Göttingen e.V.

Dr. Marina Eckermann, former Hertha Sponer Collegian, receives the Academic Award of the Universitätsbund Göttingen e.V. for her doctoral thesis at the Göttingen University. For her dissertation, the physicist combined high-resolution three-dimensional X-ray imaging with modern mathematical and statistical analysis methods to identify changes in nerve tissue as a result of neurodegenerative disease. For example, she discovered previously undescribed changes in the cell structure of the hippocampus of our brain that occur in Alzheimer’s disease. The award of the Universitätsbund Göttingen e.V., endowed with 10,000 euros, is sponsored by the AKB Foundation. The award was presented on 9 July 2022 as part of the Göttingen Alumni Day.
