Experience the senses

„Tag der Sinne“ („Day of Senses“) on Oktober 8, 2022 at the Forum Wissen in Göttingen

Hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting and touching –  with our senses, we perceive our environment every day. We experience the chirping of birds, the taste of our favourite ice cream or the beauty of a rainbow through our senses. At the same time, they help us to avoid dangers, by smelling the smoke of a fire, by hearing the sound of an alarm system or by tasting inedible food. For the 4th “Day of Senses”, the Forum Wissen and the Collaborative Research Center 889 “Cellular Mechanisms of Sensory Processing” at the University Medical Center Göttingen invite the interested public to the Forum Wissen on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 2 to 5 pm.

But how do the eyes perceive light or how do we smell? How do different sounds come about? And what happens with our senses when we get older? The Göttingen scientists provide answers to these questions and provide background information and interesting facts through playful experiments (in German and English). An extensive sensory trail offers children from the age of three, young people and adults, various experiments and hands on demonstrations. By experimenting with sounds, smells, tastes and touch boxes, they can explore their own perception and sharpen their senses. Children will receive a sensory explorer passport. One room is dedicated to the topic “Growing older with all senses”.

Registration is not required. Admission is free. Wearing Mouth and nose protection is recommended.

Further information can be found at the CRC889 website.
