The European Research Council (ERC) is funding the work of MBExC member Prof. Dr. Hauke Hillen, Institute of Cell Biochemistry, University Medical Center Göttingen and Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, with an ERC Starting Grant of 1.5 million euros for a period of five years.
This highly endowed, highly competitive research funding is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the European research landscape and will be provided to Hillen for his research on the life cycle of mitochondrial RNA. Hillen’s project “MitoRNA” aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of energy production in human cells and thus to create new therapeutic approaches for diseases that are based on a malfunction of these processes.
In addition to Hillen, two other researchers at Göttingen Campus were awarded with an ERC Starting Grant, Marieke Oudelaar (MPI-NAT) and Saskia Limbach (U GOE).
